See I am totally an earth pony by heart, but unicorns are just so WONDERFUL AND PRETTY so I can’t resist for the visual aspect. If I lived in Ponyville, I’d be an unicorn with shitty as fuck magic and I’d just be groveling around the flowers and trying to have the ~connections to the earth~ and not managing that either because it’s not my talent by nature. So I’d be just a dumb pony who got her cutie mark for being so damn sunny all the time even if she had no skills or talent for anything. XD
Plus I need to have something phallic on me so I can put it in some cute pony butt, come on.

It is free, yes! As long as you live here and get an apartment and such! I’m not sure if you would be applicable for the student loans/fees you get from the government though, I am guessing that goes to person-by-person basis. A lot of schools offer programmes in english as well, so I suppose it’s optional whether you want to learn finnish or not. Finns are super-fluent in english so it works eitherway, haha. This should get you started!

Hei vaan! Käyn Livian Ammattiopiston ympäristöhoidon alaa, eli ympäristöalan perustutkintoa. Tää koulu sijaitsee Paraisilla (Turusta n. 30 km saaristoa päin) ja nykyään saman nimen alle lasketaan myös Tuorlan ja Paimion maatalous-ja eläintenhoitokoulut. Tässä koulussa ei periaatteessa ole mitään eläintenhoidon aiheeseen liittyvää muuta kuin lajitunnistuksen kurssit, mutta koska eläintenhoito-ala kiinnostaa enemmän ja aion mahdollisesti hakeutua opiskelemaan sitä enemmän tämän koulun jälkeen (tai sitten graafista suunnittelua koska en osaa päättää mitä haluan), olen pyytänyt harjoittelupaikkoja missä sellaista pääsisi tekemään.
Suosittelen kyllä koulua jos tykkää fyysisestä työstä ja pihalla roikkumisesta ja kiinnostusta oikeasti riittää luontoon. Täällä ei tule viihtymään jos mudassa rypeminen ja metsissä pyöriminen tuntuu ahdistavalta, eikä kiinnosta tulla välillä likaiseksi tai hikiseksi. Kritiikkiä voisin myös antaa sen verran ihan että opettajat tekevät yleensä sataakahtasataa asiaa yhtäaikaa eivätkä kerkeä/muista tehdä paljon mitään oppilaiden henkilökohtaisen opiskelun edistämiseksi, joten homma on aika itsenäistä mitä tulee esimerkiksi ensiapukurssien päivämäärien ja rästitehtävien suoritusten hoitoon, tai jopa harjoittelupaikkojen löytämiseen.
Tältä alalta voi työllistyä moneen sorttiin jos vain on itse aktiivinen ja hankkii suhteita koska tässä koulutuksessa raapaistaan kuitenkin vain pintaa monesta eri aihepiiristä. Luokkakaveri just sai työsopimuksen ensi syksyksi työharjoittelupaikalta kun hän valmistuu että notta jee. :D

Um.. you should go? It is most certainly an experience, if nothing else. We have free education in Finland so it’s not actually such an important decision to make in here, you can always quit and do something else if it’s not to your liking lol
If you want a profession through drawing though, I’d recommend going for graphic design or animation, since they will both improve your skills and is more likely to land you a job after you graduate. Just fine arts or comics will mean 99,9% likelyhood of you not making a living through it and you don’t REALLY need school to get pro in those subjects, anyway.
If you just mean recommendations about schools, I really have no idea outside of Finland, I had a positive experience from Liminka. I’ve heard good things from a lot of schools. Apparently the animation-school in Turku is supposed to be the best in Finland.

Whine about it not being summer, I guess? I was born in the northern (and colder) part of Finland so I tend to whine about it not being winter, actually.. the summers have been TOO HOT lately..!!
Otherwise I don’t know we do the same things we usually do lol? It’s actually better to saw down trees during winter, it doesn’t get so hot then. We also get to drive the snowmobile. People go skii’ing and skating and shit, you know? I like winter, you get to wear woolly socks and sweaters and drinks lots of hot drinks. All you can do in the summer is to stay inside so you can hang around naked…
I’m going to be an environmental operatorrrr when I graduate spring 2013 so I take classes on how to take care of the environment?! Not so much about the actual ministration/political stuff, mostly about the stuff that gets your hands dirty! We currently had/are having courses on traditional and cultural environment caretaking and reconstructing of drainage systems + I’m doing a course on operating at the archipelago in advance for next year by being a trainee in Utö.

WELL! I’m really happy that I was born here! The nature and the free healthcare/schooling are good enough props to not give so much of a damn about the conservative and racist attitude still mostly reigning here. How do you go about cleaning animal bones? I’m not sure how to do it safely/right.
It kind of depends, I guess the handiest way would be to put it in a box with holes in it (if it has small bones and parts the ants might steal from you, that is) and shove it near an anthill and let them do most of the job. OR, you could put it in anything where it’s submerged in water, leave it somewhere securely enough so that other animals wont eat it, and let it rot for about three days. After either of these is done, you just boil the rest in a kettle (and don’t eat from it afterwards lmao) and remove the brain with a stick or a spoon or whatever. If your skull is a bird or a small rodent or something, I think you can just go ahead and boil it with no other preparations.
I uh.. like the skinning part so I just boil them, skin them a bit and repeat until it’s clean. I skinned half of the fox before boiling it because the part where it’s attached to the snout and the eyes is really tightly attached so I had to keep boiling it a lot. My way is sort of dumb because the teeth will fall off if you boil it too much but I’m impatient so /shrug the ants aren’t active in this time of year anyway. I think I’ll clean the rest of the skull by taking it outside and letting water rot it because there’s still some little bits of meat attached and the other people living in these dorms arrived and I don’t want to bother them because boiling dead stuff kind of does smell 8U (also I got in trouble last year when we boiled an entire perfectly fresh rabbit and the dorm caretaker got kind of pissed, even if the other students can prepare fish and other shit all they want?! hmph~~) The brains I already took out by scooping them with a stick and rinsing water through the skull.
So yeah if you’re worried about deceases, a) boil it and b) use dispensable rubbergloves and objects you’re using only for this purpose and c) disinfect and clean up everything afterward thoroughly.
I’m sure there’s a lot of better and more professional tutorials around if you just google but this is how me and bf have been doing it. I don’t bleach them either because I like them naturally coloured.

lmao no, sorry. I get drunk maybe twice a year, to boot. it’s one of my pet peeves to assume that creativity/abstract thinking is ultimately a result of drug use, because woah there’s no way human mind isn’t bizarre to begin with to do that even without recreational subtances right? I’ve had that comment before on my drawings and I feel like it’s discrediting my imagination, even if it’s just said in jest. I’m most. def. NOT against that either of course, I think it’s like creating while being under extreme emotions or having not slept at all, it’s just a flavour or a spice to it, if you like that sort of thing. I don’t think I have a particular reason why my drawings might seem bizarre to you, they might just reflect my personality which has been called bizarre by people as well. I don’t know about the truth, my drawings seem pretty normal by my own standards.

Thank you, gosh v_v uh, I have some sort of a preconception what the words “popular” and “skill” mean, and what sort of artists they fit to, and me being referred to them makes me a bit uncomfortable, like I’m sure a lot of other artists do, haha. Gladly those words are also relative, so I’M SAVED from further shame.
Things that I guess have helped in having wonderful people commenting me every day:
- Being on the internet since 2004
- Having other artsy friends
- Participating in fandoms
- Drawing slash-stuff
- Being active, browsing art and commenting other people a lot, too
You shouldn’t do any of those if you don’t enjoy it for real though, feels bad man?
I consider someone internet-famous when they can make a living out of putting stuff on the internet. Or when you refer to them outside the internet and someone knows them. (Finns don’t count because all finns on the internet somehow know eachother. I wish I was kidding, it freaks me out every time.)
Here’s my improvement meme which might give some insight to the other question. I don’t know man, I’m not sure I’m in a specific “skill-level”, since I don’t think professionally, necessarily stride to be a professional, nor do I think that technical prowess makes one a good artist, but it helps a lot if you just fucking love drawing, which I do. if you’re having fun with it, I’m sure you’ll figure out a way to express yourself just the way you want to?
